Houseboat Cruise along Alappuzha, Kerala – India

One of the things I’ve been waiting for during my #CometoKerala trip was this houseboat experience. Since I entered the competition around July 2014, I’ve been searching and googling about Kerala, India, and always found these beautiful houseboat images. I thought that it would be awesome to experience it. And it’s true, it was awesome! If you happen to #CometoKerala, please please please try this houseboat cruise in Alappuzha. You’ll love it, really!

How to go to Alappuzha
Alappuzha is also known as Alleppey. It is a well-known tourist destination in Kerala, southern India. The backwaters of Alappuzha are currently the most popular tourist attraction in Kerala, it connects Kumarakom and Kochi (Cochin) to the North and Quilon to the South. People come to Alappuzha to explore the backwater on a houseboat. Choices are varies between day cruise and overnight cruise, destinations are varies too. I’d personally recommend you to enjoy a 3 hours boating to Kumarakom.

To go to Alappuzha can be a little bit tricky. Well, going around Kerala is a little hard work too, if you don’t rent a car or van. So I suggest you to rent a car with driver. Ask the hotel you’re staying to arrange a trip for you. Don’t worry, people in Kerala are so kind and polite.

What to do inside the houseboat
Depending on the boat you choose. There are boats that have bedroom, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, etc. Mine was that huge boat with 2 bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, kitchen, living room (with huge sofas!), and dining room. They also offer dining on the boat, complete with desserts. Super! Other than dining, of course you can enjoy the journey laying down on the bed overlooking the backwater!

Where to stay in Kumarakom
Okay so journey from Alappuzha to Kumarakom will take about 3 hours. Once you arrived in Kumarakom, I really really recommend you to stay at Kumarakom’s best resort; Kumarakom Lake Resort. See how cool the resort is, here.
