Kumarakom Lake Resort, Kerala – India

I must say that this was the highlight of my #CometoKerala trip. Started with a 5 hours driving from Trivandrum to Alappuzha, continued with a 3 hours cruising the backwater, we finally arrived in this fantastic resort of Kumarakom. Once arrived, we were given a fresh coconut as a welcome drink, and then randomly choose our room keys. I was so fortunate that I picked up room 505 key, and got this uber awesome room with the best view! Even more awesome when I saw a huge jacuzzi inside the bathroom. Best prize so far! I love Kerala, I love India!

How to go to Kumarakom Lake Resort
I’m not sure if there’s a train or public transport that goes here. I arrived in Kumarakom via backwater cruise, story here. Take a houseboat to go to this beautiful resort. It was a surprise when I arrived, this place was really the highlight of my #CometoKerala trip!

What to do in Kumarakom Lake Resort
There are plenty of things to do in Kumarakom Lake Resort, my first choice would be to try the famous Ayurveda massage. Yup, tried it here! Spent around INR 2,800 for a 30 minutes back massage using Kerala’s Ayurveda oil and treatment. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. To begin with, the masseuse told me to wear this tiny white underwear and asked me to sit on a small wooden chair facing the wall (i know, it felt weird!). She then began to pour some oil down my shoulder and the back of my neck. After doing some Ayurveda techniques, I was told to lay my body down on the bed (uyeah, finally!), and the masseuse started to massage my back (expect low pressure from the masseuse). The whole treatment was somehow relaxing, it was different from many other traditional massages. Oh, you have to wait for half an hour before taking a bath. I guess this is to let the oil get through the skin and heal your body? Perhaps so.

Other interesting thing to do here is to have tea session in the outdoor garden. Super cool view! At around 5.30pm, they have this ‘sunset on the boat tour’. Too bad I missed it. Worry not, you can always enjoy sunset from their infinity pool! Also, at 8pm there’s a dance performance at the restaurant. And at 7am every morning, there’s a yoga session near the pool too. How cool!

Where to go in Kumarakom
Quoting from Wikipedia; Kumarakom is a popular tourism destination located near the city of Kottayam, in Kerala, India, famous for its backwater tourism. It is set in the backdrop of the Vembanad Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the state of Kerala.

Other than relaxing and enjoying the resort, you can always go outside the resort. A Village Life Experience is one of the things you can do outside the resort. It consists of boating around Aymanam village to see and experience how the locals live their life. Will tell more about this on my next post 🙂
