Tokyo One Piece Tower, Tokyo – Japan

On the very last day of my Otaku Trip to Japan last month I went to this anime-themed amusement park inside Tokyo Tower. Yup, it’s the One Piece Tokyo Tower! One Piece fans, you wouldn’t want to miss it! Experience the fantasy world of the charming pirates Luffy and his Straw Hat crews here!

About One Piece
One Piece is a famous Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It is popular in Japan as well as in Indonesia. One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (Luffy), a young man whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his Straw Hat Pirates crew, Luffy explores the seas in search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as “One Piece” in order to become the next King of the Pirates.

About Tokyo One Piece Tower
Tokyo One Piece Tower is the first ever large scale One Piece theme park in Tokyo Tower. A little history about Tokyo One Piece Tower is that it is set as Tongari Island (Tokyo Tower) located in new world (Japan). One day, Luffy and the Straw Hat Crew came to Tongari Island and created a playground where fans would gather. Luffy liked this island so much he made it his territory. And that is the origin of Tokyo One Piece Tower 😀

How to go to Tokyo One Piece Tower
Since it is located inside the Tokyo Tower, it is very easy to get to. On their website they already put a list of the nearest train station to Tokyo Tower. The required time mentioned here means walking distance to the tower.

I went there via Toei Oedo Line, so I stopped at Akabanebashi Station and it was really a short distance walking to the tower. There are signages everywhere, you won’t get lost!

Business Hours and Admission Tickets
Tokyo One Piece Tower is open from 10:00 to 22:00 with last admission at 21:00.

Advance ticket is ¥ 3,000 (IDR 360,000 / USD 27.5) for adults and ¥ 1,500 (IDR 180,000 / USD 13.75) for children under 12 years old. Advance ticket can be purchased via the link on their website here. You can always buy ticket on the spot. Day ticket is ¥ 3,200 (IDR 360,000 / USD 27.5) for adults and ¥ 1,600 (IDR 180,000 / USD 13.75) for children under 12 years old. All prices include tax.

My Experience at the Tokyo One Piece Tower
There are plenty of activities to do inside this large theme park. List of their full attractions can be found on their website here, they have ranges from arcade games to live attractions.

When first entering the theme park, I was introduced to a large interactive manga illustration. I said it’s interactive because when I stood up just in front of the artwork, the light turned on and it started to have sounds surrounding me. It was a good experience, we didn’t expect it would be THAT good.

That’s not about it. They make the manga turns LIVE with the help of digital tricks like “touch screen” and “video mapping”. I’m pretty sure it will re-live the child in you 😀

Me and my husband (who’s a One Piece fan!) went through the indoor park quite fast as we were a little bit in a hurry that day, but we managed to experience some attractions which, to my favor, were awesome. We love the Chopper’s “Thousand Sunny” Ship exploration attraction. Here we can explore the Thousand Sunny ship along with the doctor and anthropomorphized reindeer Tony Tony Chopper. There were many exciting things hidden inside the ship!

We also tried the Luffy’s Endless Adventures (which is my favorite!!). This is a walk through attraction presenting Luffy’s past adventures. It features a maze full of mirrors, and there was this bridge that got us so dizzy walking through it, we were so amazed by this!

Other than these 2 attractions, we also (of course) went to see the most awaited Live Show which takes place inside a mysterious cave. The crew gave each of us a “heart stone”, a stone that reflects everyone’s feelings in color. It can turn into blue, green, red, we were instantly a part of the show!

The live show was impressive, with video mapping and all… And the best part for me is that we were allowed to bring cameras and take pictures! 😀

Overall it was a great experience even for me who was very new to the One Piece world. I can see how this manga got so popular around the world. It looks like fans were not only engaged to the story but also with the charming characters. Whether you’re a fan of One Piece or not, you will enjoy the theme park.

Restaurants and Souvenir Shops
In addition to the theme park, there are 2 gift shops where you can buy One Piece themed souvenirs. The small one is inside the Tokyo One Piece Tower, while the large one can be found outside the theme park (just go down one level).

As for lunch or snacks, you can have them at the Sanji’s Oresama restaurant (buffet style) and Cafe Mugiwara. I’m gonna walk through those two on my next post. See ya!
